Summer Flip Flops

summer flip flop collage
I have trouble throwing away clean colorful food boxes, and was inspired by the beach theme of these cracker boxes.
MATERIALS
• Art Journal or paper
• Clean old cereal or cracker boxes
• Card stock paper
• Brads
• Crayons
• Old window screen for rubbing texture
• Scissors
• Glue stick

DIRECTIONS
1. I made a 5″ tall flip flop pattern and gave each students lots of cut up box sections. They traced them on the back to create two matching flip flops.
2. Use a sharp scissors to poke a hole in each shoe. Two small colored strips of paper, about 4″ x 1/2″ are individually placed on a small brad, and then poke into the shoe. The brad is opened up in back to secure. The strip ends are wrapped around and taped in place.
3. Students use a window screen and a crayon to rub a sand-like background. The flip flops are glued in place and a page title and edging are added with crayons.
