Here’s how to draw a dog, easy enough for even very young artists. This beautiful one was drawn and painted by a first grader.
I recommend this dog tutorial for students that have already tried a bit of direct drawing. It’s pretty simple, but details like a chin that goes below the head, and curvy legs that extend in opposite directions, may be a little frustrating for kindergarteners.
That said, once you have him (or her) drawn, this makes for a great painting project as the large simple shapes are easy to fill. It’s also pretty forgiving of the little puddles that happen when you are just learning how to get the paint on the paper.
Note: If you are in love with the color in this painting (like I am!) it has everything to do with the watercolor paper and liquid watercolor paints. They create a brightness that is unfortunately hard to reproduce with drawing paper and tablet paints.
