mc escher for kids M.C. Escher’s art continues to amaze people all over the world. His many nature-themed tessellations are both lovely and brilliant.
I found the repeating pattern in Escher’s Lizard Tessellation, and thought it would be fun as a classroom project. Just print copies of the single downloadable page trim, color, and assemble in groups of four as shown. Make a small mural or a super large one, it’s all up to you.
MATERIALS
DIRECTIONS
PREP: Print a Escher square for each student. Trim the edge with a paper cutter.
  1. Students color in their lizard with a marker. You could make them follow a pre-planned color scheme, or just do random.
  2. Every square is glued down to a large sheet of butcher paper as shown in my diagram, with the lizard mouths touching.
  3. Those groups are repeated until you have filled the paper with complete groups of four.
