Raptor Head
When some fun texture is needed, as with this large Raptor head drawing, it doesn’t get much easier than creating some with crayons and animal skin rubbing plates.
It’s a fun, low-pressure technique that encourages creativity and can easily connect to science topics like dinosaurs, birds of prey, or animal adaptations.

Raptor Step by Step Instruction
Time needed: 45 minutes
Draw a Raptor Head step by step
- Start the large curve for the top of the head as shown.
- Continue the line to become the top of the mouth.
- Continue down to draw the bottom of the mouth.
- Finish the line to create the bottom of the jaw.
- Add the jawline and neck underneath the mouth.
- Add the skin line in the mouth. Draw the brows and the eye, and nostril.
- Erase the gray line. Add lots of small teeth in the mouth.
- Trace the drawing with a black marker. Slide rubbing plate underneath and rub with a dark crayon. Move the plate as needed, to fill the head with texture.
- Add a layer of green on top of the black rubbing, then color the mouth, eye and background as desired.
- Experiment with different texture plates and then cover with bright patches random color. Who says raptors have to be green?
