Faith Ringgold Flag Project
Faith Ringgold, an African-American artist, is best known for her large story quilts. In 1985 she made a piece titled “Flag Story Quilt”.
This collage project will not only put some old magazines to work, it will create a collage that looks a lot like Ms. Ringgold’s original work. Encourage students to look for rich reds, and deep blues to get their most colorful flag. The shiny coating on most magazine pages will only enhance to look.
I’ve made a simple template that gives students some guidelines to follow. Just download the template below, print on some heavier paper, have your students glue their swatches in place. A few white dots for easy stars will complete the look.
