Below you’ll find an easy step-by-step tutorial for how to draw yourself as an Anime Character and coloring pages. It’s all about drawing with some unusual proportions for the forehead, eyes and mouth.

Why try an Anime Character drawing lesson?
Anime is often one of the first styles of drawing that students are exposed to, thanks to seeing it in their favorite comic books and TV shows. It’s natural that they would want to try it out too.
There are books you can buy that explain the history of anime and have detailed lessons, but if you would like to have your students get a starte lesson, then this is the tutorial for you.
Rather than drawing an entire body, the this project focuses on drawing a face with these key features:
• large forehead
• giant eyes (as in 3 or 4x larger than usual)
• simple nose and mouth (just a line or two)
• and somewhat pointy chin
This tutorial might also help students want to draw themselves as an anime character. They could follow the tutorial until they get to the hair, and then add their own. My download includes an extra page with a few different ways to draw both anime boys and girls, which hopefully offers some extra inspiration.

Materials for Anime Character Drawing
- Drawing Paper. This is the good stuff you can buy in bulk for a good price.
- Pencils. I like how this brand always makes nice dark lines.
- Black Marker. A permanent marker will give you a dark black color.
- Crayons. The larger packs are nice for more color choices.

Directions to Draw an Anime Character
Time needed: 45 minutes

Draw two very large eye shapes. Add the iris lines inside.

Add details to the eyes and draw the bottom of the head with a pointy chin.

Draw the eyelashes (with pointy tips or smooth) and the simple nose and mouth.

Draw the very large forehead above the face, and the ears on the sides.

Add a skinny neck and shoulders. See sample page for more clothing ideas.

Finish the hair to look like your own. See sample page for more hair examples.

Trace with a marker and color with crayons or colored pencils.

Another option. Remember, anime heads have large foreheads, giant eyes…
