Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician and attorney serving as the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the United States’ first female vice president, the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, and the first African American and first Asian American vice president.

Kamala was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. She is the daughter of immigrants—her father from Jamaica, and her mother from India. Harris and her sister were raised in the San Francisco Bay area of California, where they attended a Baptist church and a Hindu temple.

In 2019, Kamala released an illustrated children’s book titled, Superheroes Are Everywhere. In the book, she writes about how heroism has more to do with choice and character than capes. “Heroes stand up for what is right. Who stands up for what is right in your life?” the book poses.
