Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet and now regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry.

Only 10 of Emily Dickinson’s nearly 1,800 poems are known to have been published in her lifetime. A private person, she sent hundreds of poems to friends and correspondents while apparently keeping the greater number to herself. Her verse is distinguished by its haunting personal voice.

DRAWING PAPER

Pacon Drawing Paper, White, Standard Weight, 9″ x 12″, 500 Sheets


OOLY BEESWAX CRAYONS

Ooly, Natural Beeswax Crayons, Set of 24. Made from non-toxic ingredients for ages 3 and up.

SHARPIE MARKERS

Fine Point, permanent black ink marks on paper, plastic, metal, and most other surfaces.

Directions

Time needed: 45 minutes

Step by step directions to draw Emily Dickinson

  1. Plan the size of the head by making some light marks.

  2. Connect the marks to make an oval that has a point on top.

  3. Draw two eyes and include the eyelid lines.

  4. Add the eyebrows and the nose that is half way down.

  5. Draw the mouth, it should be centered in the space below the nose.

  6. Add Emily’s bottom of her ears and her pulled-back hair.

  7. Draw a neck and add her collar and shoulder lines.

  8. Add E-M-I-L-Y in big block letters at the top of the page.

  9. Trace with a marker and color.
