Chagall Inspired Painting

About the artist Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall’s ideas led to an art movement called Surrealism, which wanted to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. This Chagall art project is kind of like asking artists trying to paint their dreams.

One easy way for students to try this idea out is to have them draw simple, familiar shapes, but in all different directions. Some things can be right side up and some upside down. The result is a scene that you can recognize but doesn’t make sense. That’s so surreal!
