Now young football fans have a little help in learning how to draw a football helmet – a great way for them to show support for their favorite team. This tutorial gives them a step by step lesson in how to draw one with a nice side view, which provides the perfect space for them to add their team’s logo.

Real football helmets are actually rather complicated shapes, with the multiple bars and chin straps and all. Drawing one that shows both sides of the face mask might get frustrating and take some of the fun out of the project. That’s not necessary when a simple side view says exactly what this is, and lets students decide if or how they might like to add more to it. Younger students can finish it with their teams colors, and older ones can take a moment to customize it with a logo. Which, buy the way, could certainly be their school’s football team logo too!

Materials

  • Drawing Paper. This is the good stuff you can buy in bulk for a good price.
  • Pencils. I like how this brand always makes nice dark lines.
  • Black Marker. A permanent marker will give you a dark black color.
  • Crayons. The larger packs are nice for more color choices.

Directions

Time needed: 45 minutes

Step by Step directions to draw a Football Helmet

  1. Start with a large C shape shape.

  2. Connect the ends with a curved shape like this.

  3. Start the face mask with a bent line shape.

  4. Add a bent line shape underneath it.

  5. Ten add a backwards J shape.

  6. Connect the ends of two shapes with two lines.

  7. Finish with a curved shape like this.

  8. Add a ring and some small circles.

  9. Trace with a marker and color.
